Brandenburg University of Technology installs Lunovu metal additive manufacturing machine

Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) has invested in and installed a Lunovu GmbH Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) machine. The university based in Cottbus, Germany, has brought the metal additive manufacturing system in-house to enable the mechanical design and manufacturing department to work on the materials development, and production of lightweight components, among other things.
Lunovu’s LMD system boasts a 2kw diode laser, a 300 x 300 x 300 mm build volume, can process multiple materials in a single production sequence, and has been designed for industry and academia alike. The additive manufacturing machine’s installation will aid BTU Cottbus to in its work around manufacturing processes from design to end-use part. This research will explore integrated process chains and look into hybrid production processes which lean on both additive and subtractive technologies.
