BMW considering second manufacturing plant in U.S.

BMW AG BMW, +0.66% is mulling the construction of a second manufacturing plant in the U.S., Reuters reported Tuesday. In an interview at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Chief Executive Harald Krueger told Reuters that "We're at the range where you could think about a second location," which would produce engines and transmissions. BMW already has one U.S. plant, in South Carolina, employing about 8,800 people. Krueger said the move could be a natural currency hedge, and it could be beneficial if President Donald Trump follows through with threats to impose tariffs on all auto imports into the U.S.
