Velo3D Delivers First Sapphire® XC to an Aerospace Customer, Enabling Bigger Parts, Productivity Gains

Velo3D Delivers
Velo3D, Inc., a leader in metal additive manufacturing technology for mission-critical metal components, has announced the delivery of its first Sapphire® XC. The Sapphire® XC, or "Extra Capacity," is Velo3D's newest and biggest metal 3D printer, capable of producing both larger components and quicker manufacturing. The Sapphire® XC is a scaled-up version of the Sapphire® printer that utilizes the same FlowTM print preparation software, AssureTM quality control software, and Intelligent Fusion® production process as the Sapphire® printer.

Sapphire® XC is designed to enable a smooth transition of components produced and qualified on Sapphire® to the bigger, more productive Sapphire® XC, resulting in up to a 75% reduction in the cost of making parts. Sapphire® XC also allows for the production of components that are 400% larger in volume than the largest parts available with Sapphire®.The client that receives the new Sapphire® XC will utilize it to increase production of a product that was previously manufactured utilizing the Sapphire® fleet of metal 3D printers.

I believe that the Sapphire XC will quickly become the gold standard in advanced metal additive manufacturing. Because our customer is already utilizing our end-to-end production solution, they can immediately and seamlessly move parts to Sapphire XC to achieve a phenomenal production rate increase. We made a huge effort to ensure that Sapphire XC uses the exact same manufacturing process as Sapphire. The ability to move production seamlessly between different products was considered impossible when we started Velo3D, but I am proud to declare that we have unlocked this ability for our customers and partners. It is a huge accomplishment—our biggest achievement of 2021. "

Benny Buller, Velo3D CEO and Founder
